Cyclists in Ingolstadt collectively traveled an impressive 365,000 kilometers, as reported by 2378 participants.
In the heart of Bavaria, the city of Ingolstadt is hosting the Ingolstadt Cycling Challenge, a part of the STADTRADELN 2025 initiative, aiming to promote climate-friendly mobility and encourage participants to cycle as many kilometers as possible within a set period.
As of Monday morning, over 2300 cyclists have registered for the challenge, organized into 233 teams, which include clubs, schools, and companies. The current leaders are the "City Administration Ingolstadt and Subsidiaries" team, who have collectively covered an impressive 26,205 kilometers. The Apian-Gymnasium is in third place, with 92 cyclists and 16,805 kilometers under their belts.
The Grundschule Ingolstadt-Ringsee is close behind in second place, with 263 cyclists and 17,698 kilometers. The total distance covered by the cyclists is approximately 365,000 kilometers, a testament to the city's commitment to sustainable transportation.
Some teams have opted for creative and funny names, such as the Wild Horned Ones, Bavarian Beer-Bikers, Haemo-Riders, Wookies on Wheels, Wadlpirates, Da Wadl-Wahnsinn, and Stiftung Wadentest.
By choosing to cycle instead of drive, these participants are setting an example for climate protection. The challenge, which runs until July 25, has already resulted in a savings of around 60 tons of CO2.
If you're interested in joining the challenge, registration is open until July 25 on the official STADTRADELN website for Ingolstadt. You can join as an individual or as part of a team. To log your cycling kilometers, use the online cycling calendar or the Stadtradeln app.
