Cycling enthusiasts shatter records as over 9,000 city dwellers pedal their way to glory in 2025
In the heart of Bavaria, the city and district of Bamberg recently hosted the 10th annual STADTRADELN event, a celebration of sustainable mobility that saw an impressive turnout of 9,856 cyclists.
This year's STADTRADELN was a milestone for the district, with a total of 402 teams participating, including 150 teams in the city and 252 teams in the district. The event featured ten anniversary tours, making it a special occasion for all involved.
The Clavius Grammar School in Bamberg took the lead, boasting an impressive 535 cyclists and almost 114,000 kilometers cycled, making it the school with the most participants and kilometers cycled in the event.
The district also saw the participation of 56 kindergartens, four more than the previous year, demonstrating a growing commitment to sustainable mobility among the youngest members of the community.
The city of Bamberg held a strong position, currently leading Bavaria and standing second nationwide among comparable municipalities for the number of kilometers cycled. This achievement is a testament to the city's dedication to promoting sustainable transportation.
The event was not just a competition, but a celebration of community spirit. The Beats&Bikes action on the PumpTrack facility in Litzendorf was a popular event among children and young people, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The STADTRADELN was accompanied by various offers in the city and district, including a water protection area tour, an evening ride, and thank-you actions for participants. These additional activities made the event even more engaging and enjoyable for all.
For the first time, there was a separate kindergarten category in the city with 14 participating teams. This initiative underscores the event's commitment to fostering sustainable habits from a young age.
The E.T.A. Hoffmann Grammar School followed closely in second place with 62,615 kilometers cycled. The school's impressive performance is a testament to the students' and teachers' dedication to the cause.
The event saved a significant amount of CO2, with 320,000 kilograms saved during STADTRADELN 2025. This environmental impact is a clear demonstration of the event's positive impact on the community and the environment.
The Landkreis Bamberg recognised and thanked its municipal members by planting trees, installing bike racks, and providing benches to promote sustainable mobility.
Before the end of the school year, attractive prizes were awarded to the committed kindergartens and schools. The award ceremony for the Landkreis Bamberg is scheduled for September 23, 2025.
