In a unique collaboration, the Kentucky tourism office VisitLEX has teamed up with local craftsman Marcus Floyd to re purpose collector's item human sneakers into premium "horseshoes" for top-performing equine athletes. These custom-designed hoof covers are meant to protect the animals' hooves while also making a fashion statement.
Mary Quinn Ramer, president of VisitLEX, explained, "If athletes like LeBron James can have their own custom sneakers, why not allow American Pharaoh and others to wear unique horseshoes designed by Marcus Floyd?"
Floyd is a shoe and cleat artist based in Lexington, whose company Infinite Kustomz specializes in customized and hand-painted products, often repurposed from brands like Nike, New Balance, and Adidas. This latest project demonstrates the versatility of Floyd's work in blending fashion and function for horses.
Although there is no confirmed partnership between VisitLEX and Marcus Floyd to create these custom horseshoes for horses, this partnership is a potential way to promote Lexington as a destination for equine enthusiasts and fashion-forward tourists alike.
