Covington Celebrates Arbor Day in April with Tree Planting Events
Covington is celebrating Arbor Day throughout April with a series of events focused on tree planting and education. The city, recognized as a 'Tree City' for 21 years and a 'Tree City of the World' for 3 years, is partnering with the Kentucky Division of Forestry to host these initiatives.
The celebrations kick off on April 4 at Goebel Park with the Kentucky Arbor Day Ceremony. Here, a memorial tree will be planted, and 200 Bald Cypress seedlings will be given away. The following day, April 5, the Covington Urban Forestry Board will host a Spring Tree Planting event in the same park, with 25 to 30 trees set to be planted. This board is managed by the City of Covington itself, as seen in their involvement in hosting events like the Fall Tree Planting.
On April 26, the Historic Linden Grove Cemetery & Arboretum will hold its Linden Day Arbor Day Celebration, offering 400 tree seedlings to the public. Additionally, the Urban Forestry Board will distribute hundreds of tree seedlings to third graders in Covington elementary schools throughout the month. These giveaways aim to engage the community and foster a love for trees and nature.
Covington's Arbor Day celebrations are a testament to the city's commitment to urban forestry and environmental sustainability. With events like these, Covington continues to deserve its 'Tree City' and 'Tree City of the World' recognitions.
