Commune of Altenbeken: Join in the festivities - Fireworks light up the nightscape around May Day
Get ready for a fun-filled month in Schwaney and Altenbeken as two exciting events are scheduled!
On the first day of May, an Association Tree Setting event will take place in Schwaney, starting at 2 PM on the community square. This family-friendly event will feature a large bouncy castle and numerous play opportunities for children.
Meanwhile, on May 3rd, 2025, the Florian's Mass will take place at the fire equipment house in Altenbeken at 5 PM. This ecumenical service, in honour of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, will be conducted by Pastor Martin Hufelschulte and Pastor Katrin Elhaus.
The service will be accompanied by the melodious tunes of the Bahn-Orchester Altenbeken 1919 e.V., and catering will be provided by a culinary mile offering various food and drinks, including coffee, cake, 'Schinderhannes' steaks, burgers, and drinks from the inclusive brewery Josefsbräu.
The event promises a colourful program for all ages. Highlights include an old-timer tractor procession, a youth fire brigade demonstration, a performance by the TUS Dance group, and music by Bundesschützen Garde Musikkorps Schwaney.
A special highlight is the youth fire brigade's duck race, where numbered plastic ducks compete for attractive prizes. Participation costs 3 euros per duck. Remaining stocks of ducks will also be available on the day of the event.
For those who love vintage tractors, all tractor enthusiasts are invited to participate with their vehicles. The return to the festival site is planned for 2 PM.
The proceeds from the duck race will go entirely to the youth work of the fire department. Ducks can be purchased in advance on April 26th, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at three locations: Frischemarkt Schwaney, Combi Buke, and the Sauerwald gas station in Altenbeken.
