Commemoration event scheduled for the 14th of September

In the heart of Euskirchen, Germany, a series of captivating events and exhibitions await visitors this September. From historical monuments to musical performances, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Firstly, the 'house' society house, located at Kaplan-Kellermann-Str.1, will be open for all to explore. Recently cleaned and restored, the building's stonework is now more visible than ever. The cultural and support association CASINO e.V. will be on hand to guide visitors through the 'home'.

The 'house' society house will also play host to a piano concert at 4 pm, and children's coloring pages will be available at the 'home' society house's 'home'.

History buffs won't want to miss the special exhibition at the Euskirchen City Museum, located at Wilhelmstraße 32-34. Titled 'Rebirth in Peace. Euskirchen 1945-1961', the exhibition illustrates the situation in Euskirchen after the occupation by the Allied forces at the end of World War II and ends with the founding of the twin city partnership between Euskirchen and Charleville in 1961.

For those interested in Euskirchen's past, the 'Prussian Locomotive Shed', Oststraße 2a, will be open and will feature the special locomotive, the 'Zucker-Susi'. The Eisenbahnfreunde Euskirchen e.V. will explain the locomotive and many other locomotives will be open for viewing, with their technology explained.

On September 14th, historic monuments in Euskirchen city center will be open to the public from 11 am to 5 pm. This includes the two-part Honor Cemetery, which was inaugurated as a memorial for the fallen of World War I and the war dead of 1936-1945. The Honor Cemetery, various war graves, and memorials can also be found at the cemetery on Frauenberger Straße.

A simple gravestone of greywacke commemorates the unknown war dead, while a stele of Muschelkalk symbolizes the memorial for the Russian fallen. Additionally, a three-part gravestone wall remembers the Polish fallen. Information about the 'Adopt-a-Grave' initiative is provided at the info stand of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V., North Rhine-Westphalia branch.

The Rhenish Association for Monument Preservation and Landscape Protection e.V. will explain their work and support for building and landscape monuments at the info stand, FB 9, Lower Heritage Authority.

Admission to all events in Euskirchen, including the exhibition, is free. So, come and join us for a journey through history in beautiful Euskirchen this September!
