Brewery Accusations Along Allegheny River

In the heart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, lies the Allegheny River Brewery, a mobile brewery that carries a piece of its founder's childhood in Oakmont, along the Allegheny River. Brandon A., the proprietor of this unique establishment, has been brewing beer for six years and has turned his passion into a thriving business.

The brewery's inception was a collaborative effort between Brandon and his two friends, John B. and Paul R., who planned and built the brewery over a three-month period. The name Allegheny River Brewery is a nod to the brewer's roots and the river that played a significant role in his life growing up.

The brewery is not just a stationary structure; it is wheelable, allowing for both indoor and outdoor brewing. This mobility is a testament to the innovative spirit of Brandon and his team.

Brandon's brewing setup is a 3-vessel custom-made electric brewery, a significant upgrade from the two-brew setup on a single pot and turkey fryer extract setup they started with. Brandon's equipment arsenal includes Spike Brewing equipment, such as a 20 Gallon HLT with HERMS coil and heating element, a 20 Gallon Mash Tun, and a 20 Gallon Boil Kettle with heating element.

Paul R., a mechanical engineer specializing in automation, played a crucial role in the brewery's development. He built a custom program to control the brewery functions via laptop and handled all the electrical work.

Brandon's journey as a homebrewer has been marked by numerous milestones. One of his most notable achievements was being chosen to be featured on the TV show "Beerland," where he won the Pittsburgh episode. This victory allowed him to be flown out to California for the season finale, although he did not win the finale, the experience was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that allowed him to meet people with similar interests from different parts of the country.

Brandon's advice to new brewers is to educate themselves as much as possible through books, brew clubs, and listening to advice and feedback from other brewers. He finds it hard to beat a well-done pale ale, but he enjoys a variety of beer styles.

Brandon is a member of the homebrew club TRASH (Three Rivers Alliance of Serious Homebrewers), where he continues to hone his craft and share his passion for brewing with others. The Allegheny River Brewery is a testament to Brandon's dedication and love for brewing, and it continues to be a popular destination for beer enthusiasts in Pittsburgh and beyond.
