Bikepark Nordhorn Opens Today, Born from Youth Idea and EU Funding
Today marks the opening of the 'Bikepark Nordhorn', a new facility built with the help of local youth and European funding. The park, designed for mountain bikes and BMX bicycles, is open to the public and aims to promote active recreation.
The initiative for the Bikepark came from a group of young BMX riders who presented their idea to Mayor Thomas Berling in late 2024. The Mayor, recognizing the potential of the project, ensured youth involvement throughout its implementation. The facility, located next to the 'Rodelberg' in the Gewerbe- und Industriepark GIP, was completed in just a few weeks after construction began in August 2025.
The park, costing approximately 160,000 euros, received a significant grant of around 60,000 euros from the European Union's European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The Gehörlosen-Sportverband Niedersachsen e.V. also contributed to the financing, although the exact share is not specified. The park consists of three zones - 'Pumptrack', 'Table Line', and 'Dirt Line' - catering to different skill levels.
The 'Bikepark Nordhorn' is now open, offering a space for mountain bike and BMX enthusiasts aged eight and above to enjoy while wearing protective gear. A public sports event is planned to officially inaugurate the facility once all pending work is completed. The park's opening is a testament to the power of youth ideas and community collaboration.
