Bergisch Gladbach Embraces Sustainable Transport with Successful STADTRADELN 2025

Bergisch Gladbach, a city in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, recently played host to the nationwide STADTRADELN event, a campaign aimed at promoting bicycle use and reducing carbon emissions. The three-week action concluded successfully on July 17, 2025, with an official awards ceremony at the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz.

Ragnar Migenda, First Deputy Mayor of the city, highlighted the increasing use of bicycles as a means of transport in Bergisch Gladbach. He emphasized that bicycles are a CO2-emission-free means of transport, contributing significantly to the city's efforts towards climate-friendly mobility.

A total of 763 cyclists participated in 34 teams, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for cycling in the region. The city's well-established cycling routes, encouraging people to choose cycling for both leisure and commuting, indirectly aids emission reduction. While specific local data on CO2 reductions are not directly available, Germany overall has a notable bicycle commuting rate of about 20%, reflecting a broader trend toward sustainable transport.

The top teams in the overall ranking were 3R & Friends and the Kruger Group. In addition, a new category, "Most everyday trips", was introduced to emphasize cycling in daily life. The Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium, a municipal school, had the highest total kilometers among all schools, showcasing the impact of the campaign on the local community.

During the action, a total of 12,516 trips were recorded, covering a combined distance of 156,938 kilometers. The city of Bergisch Gladbach thanks all participants for their commitment in STADTRADELN 2025.
