In the heart of Scotland, renowned mixed media/textile artist Deborah Campbell invites you to embark on an exciting online journey with her 'Coastal Layers' project. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to bring neglected or recycled fabrics back to life and give them a new creative purpose.

Deborah's textile artwork is inspired by the breathtaking coastal landscape and birdlife of Scotland, and her focus lies on combining print and stitch in a painterly and spontaneous manner. The project aims to help participants gain confidence with new techniques and create a coastal textile art piece.

Throughout the workshop, Deborah encourages experimentation and exploration, helping to build confidence in creativity. The course covers a variety of techniques and processes, including gel plate making, printing blocks, layering and tearing fabrics, collage, free motion machine embroidery, and hand embroidery.

Participants will learn how to print soft coastal textures onto different weights of fabric, including sheers, to bring depth of color and pattern to their work. Deborah uses various fabric textures, such as organza and gauze, in her work to achieve this.

The course consists of 10 videos and 10 worksheets, totaling 2.45 hours. It provides instant and lifetime access to these resources. To make the most of the experience, you'll need materials such as gelatine & glycerine, soft cut lino and cutting tool, acrylics or fabric paints, roller, a variety of recycled fabrics, light fabrics (like organza), backing fabric (like felt), Bonda web or pins, a sewing machine set up for free motion embroidery and machine threads, a darning needle, and embroidery threads.

Deborah Campbell, a graduate of Printed Textiles from the Glasgow School of Art, is the tutor for this project. She believes that everyone has the potential to create beautiful textile art, and her workshop is designed to help you unleash that potential.

The course offers access to a Facebook Group, where you can share your work and receive feedback from Deborah and fellow participants. The cost of the project is approximately £80 ($109*).

Join Deborah Campbell on this coastal journey and breathe new life into your textile creations while discovering the beauty of Scotland's natural world.
