Bauhaus Anniversary 2025-26: Minister-President Haseloff Announces Three Grant Recipients
In 2025, Dessau-Roßlau will mark a significant milestone as it commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus school's move to the city. This anniversary underscores Dessau-Roßlau's historical role as a key location for modernist architecture and design, particularly associated with the iconic Bauhaus buildings designed by Walter Gropius.
The state of Germany is showing its support for this cultural event of international significance by funding various projects. For instance, the Dessau-Roßlau City Archives' event series "1925. The Bauhaus Comes to Dessau" will receive 75,600 euros, and the "Bauhaus Summer Festival 2025/26" will receive 35,000 euros in state funds.
These state-funded projects encompass exhibitions, cultural festivals, and artistic projects supported by regional organizations such as the Saxony-Anhalt Art Foundation. The Art Foundation and similar state bodies organize art trails, exhibitions, and commemorative events in the region to honour both Bauhaus and other historical anniversaries occurring around the same time, contributing to the cultural revitalization of Dessau-Roßlau.
The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation serves as a central institution in maintaining and promoting Bauhaus heritage, hosting tours, exhibitions, and educational programs, particularly intensified around anniversary years. Additionally, major cultural events such as the Garden Realm Festival and performances at the Anhaltisches Theater are part of the wider cultural agenda during 2025 in Dessau, indicating a vibrant environment for commemorating Bauhaus alongside other local heritage.
Minister-President Dr. Reiner Haseloff has expressed the importance of preserving and communicating the heritage, culture, and ideas of the Bauhaus to a broad public. He noted that the Bauhaus had its greatest impact on architecture, crafts, design, and human living conditions in Dessau. Haseloff also highlighted the modernity, openness, and liberalism of Dessau as having a productive influence on the Bauhaus from the very beginning.
As part of the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus Dessau, Minister-President Dr. Reiner Haseloff presented three funding decisions for cultural projects in Dessau-Roßlau. Among these, the special exhibition "100 Years of Bauhaus Dessau at the Anhaltische Gallery" will receive 16,000 euros in state funds.
