Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Baden-Württemberg: A Treasure Trove of Cultural and Architectural Wonders

Baden-Württemberg, a state in southwestern Germany, is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, each unique and invaluable. These sites, including the Cistercian Monastery of Maulbronn, the Island Monastery of Reichenau, the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes, and others, are part of the irreplaceable heritage of all humanity.

The Baden-Württemberg World Heritage Concept, a joint initiative, aims to preserve and network these cultural and architectural gems, making them more accessible to the public. Measures such as an image film, an exhibition, and a brochure are being developed as part of this concept.

One of the latest additions to this initiative is the TrueWonderBenches. These benches, located in various sites, are designed as places of encounter and serve as a support for conveying the World Heritage idea. Recently, Minister Nicole Razavi inaugurated two such benches in Baden-Baden, a city renowned for its relaxation and culture.

Each TrueWonderBench contains a map, an overview text, a site-specific text, and a link to a film about the World Heritage sites. The benches, installed on the venerable market square in Baden-Baden, are believed to enrich the city by Professor Dr. Claus Wolf and Alexander Wieland, the First Mayor of Baden-Baden.

Neighboring communities of a World Heritage site can submit a location proposal to the State Office for Heritage Preservation in the Stuttgart Government Presidency for TrueWonderBenches. Previously, these benches have been installed on the island of Reichenau, near the monastery of Maulbronn, and at the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes in Osterburken, Buchen, and Walldürn.

For more information about the Baden-Württemberg World Heritage Concept and the TrueWonderBenches, you can visit the media library on the Ministry of Territorial Development and Housing's website. Here, you will find downloadable images and contact information for the press office.

The goal of the BW World Heritage Concept is to ensure the preservation and accessibility of these seven World Heritage sites, each distinguished by their exceptional universal value, authenticity, and uniqueness. By supporting these sites, we are not only preserving a piece of our past but also ensuring a richer future for all.
