Hosoo and Dimorestudio Unveil the Hemispheres Textile Collection

The Hemispheres textile collection, a collaboration between the historic Japanese textile maker Hosoo and Milan-based design studio Dimorestudio, has made its debut at Milano Design Week 2025. This unique collection, which recently premiered in Japan, combines traditional Japanese obi patterns with contemporary design aesthetics.

Hosoo, a Kyoto-based company founded in 1688, is renowned for its traditional Nishijin-ori obi fabrics. The company's extensive archive, containing over 20,000 kimono obi designs, provided the inspiration for the Hemispheres collection. These designs feature motifs such as bamboo, branches, leaves, and flowers.

Dimorestudio, led by Osanna Visconti, brings a sculptural and artistic sensibility to the collaboration. They have reinterpreted these patterns in soft desaturated shades, drawing inspiration from both the historic sketches and Italian painter Giorgio Morandi.

The result is a collection that seamlessly integrates ancient weaving techniques and heritage with modern luxury design. The textiles, used to wrap the curved lines of armchairs, sofas, and daybeds, create a series of elegantly-layered rooms. The Hemispheres collection harmonizes smoothly with the Magnolia collection, which is also available to shop at Atelier Osanna Visconti, Milan.

The Magnolia collection is inspired by the magnolia's life cycle. Osanna Visconti's Magnolia collection is made using the millennia-old technique of lost wax casting at a Milan foundry. An intricate bronze flower-inspired frame in the Magnolia collection highlights the subtle gold threads in Dimorestudio's botanical fabrics.

Both Hosoo and Osanna Visconti appreciate historical craftsmanship and find inspiration in nature. Masataka Hosoo, a 12th-generation member of the Hosoo family, believes that the "blank space" in the preserved uncolored sketches holds the potential for timeless creativity. Osanna Visconti deeply respects the craftsmanship and tradition of Hosoo.

'Dimorestudio infused these untouched designs with their own unique interpretation and delicate sense of color,' according to Hosoo. This cross-cultural collaboration showcases Kyoto's ancient textile tradition through a modern and international lens, highlighting the dialogue between Japan's refined sartorial history and Europe's contemporary art and design culture.

The Hemispheres textile collection is on display at the atmospheric 17th-century atelier of Osanna Visconti during Milan Design Week. Visitors can witness the fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and Italian design in both form and function, creating immersive spaces that feel like a living home rather than a gallery display.

The Hemispheres textile collection, an amalgamation of interior-design and lifestyle, offers a harmonious blend of traditional Japanese obi patterns and contemporary aesthetics, seamlessly integrating into home-and-garden settings. This collaboration between Hosoo and Dimorestudio, showcasing at Milan Design Week 2025, breathes new life into ancient weaving techniques and heritage, creating modern luxury designs that exude an aura of elegance.
