Annual festivities and pilgrimage week taking place in St. Wendel, featuring Wendelskirmes celebrations.
St. Wendel, Germany Invites Visitors to the Annual Wendelskirmes Festival
The charming town of St. Wendel will host the traditional Wendelskirmes festival from the last two weeks of October. This event welcomes pilgrims, fairgoers, and Oktoberfest enthusiasts alike.
The highlight of the festival is the "Seek God like St. Wendelin" pilgrimage week, running from October 18 to 24. Organized by the Catholic parish of St. Wendelin, the week attracts numerous pilgrims interested in visiting the shrine containing the relics of St. Wendelin. On October 18, a solemn Eucharistic celebration will reveal the shrine at 6 pm, followed by eucharistic adoration at 7:15 pm, organized by the parish council of St. Wendelin.
Each day of the pilgrimage week features a specific theme, such as the Day of People with Disabilities and Women's Communities, the Pilgrimage Day and Feast Day of St. Wendelin, the Parish Day, and more.
In addition to the pilgrimage week, St. Wendel offers an extensive supporting program. This includes a traditional festival concert on Thursday, featuring choral and orchestral music from Northern Europe, as well as an ecumenical vesper service co-led by the Taizé project choir of St. Wendel. The pilgrimage lecture, to be held on Monday, will be given by former Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier on the topic of "War and Peace."

The religious events are complemented by an amusement park on the Bosenbach festival grounds from October 21 to 29. Fairground attractions and booths will provide fun for all ages, with a children's festival scheduled for October 25. The only day the fair will be closed is Thursday, October 26.
The Wendelskirmes concludes with an Oktoberfest celebration organized by TV 1861 St. Wendel. This year's festivities feature live performances by popular German bands "DIE KONSORTEN," "Krachleder," and "MAXXX."
On the last day of the fair, Sunday, October 29, fireworks will mark the colorful finale. Shops in St. Wendel will be open on Kirmessonntag, October 22, from 1 pm to 6 pm, and the City-Garage will be open from 11 am to 10 pm. On Tuesday, October 24, over two hundred market stalls will line the city streets for the traditional Wendelsmarkt, one of the largest markets in Saarland that dates back to 1332.
