Almaty Water Pipe Burst: Kazakhmys Corporation Faces Severe Penalties

Last Friday, an incident in Almaty resulted in severe penalties for the responsible contractor. A burst water pipe caused significant disruption, but emergency crews swiftly restored the cold water supply.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Tole bi and Muratbaeva streets. Preliminary data suggests it was due to deviation from design solutions and violation of backfilling technology during a network transfer. This led to ground subsidence, a water pipe burst, and road surface sinking.

The responsible private company, Kazakhmys Corporation, faces severe consequences. They will be held administratively responsible under Article 312 of the Republic of Kazakhstan's Code of Administrative Offenses. This includes a large fine and possible license revocation. The company is committed to restoring the road surface to its original design next week.

Traffic was temporarily halted but resumed after the subsidence area was filled with inert material and covered with concrete.

The incident in Almaty has resulted in significant penalties for Kazakhmys Corporation. The company is now committed to repairing the damage and ensuring the road surface meets the original design specifications.
