Advanced Thermal Technology for Long-Term Home Comfort

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Detmold is taking significant strides towards becoming climate neutral by 2035. One of the key factors in this ambitious plan is the sustainable conversion of heat supply, a topic that will be the focus of an upcoming information event.

The event, titled "Which heat for my house?", is scheduled to take place at the Detmolder Stadthalle on 02.09.2025 from 6 pm to 8 pm. This event, in cooperation with NRW.Energy4Climate, aims to provide citizens with an orientation on how to transition to climate-friendly and reliable heat supply.

Heating accounts for approximately 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Detmold, making it the city's biggest lever for climate neutrality. The municipal heat planning, developed with financial support from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection between December 2023 and December 2024, is a crucial tool in this endeavour.

Priority district heating expansion areas in Detmold include the city center, Hiddesen-Mitte, parts of Spork-Eichholz, and Jerxen-Orbke. Interested parties who own a building in these test areas can contact Stadtwerke Detmold for more information.

The municipal heat planning will be continuously refined and updated at least by the year 2030. In further zones, a possible district heating expansion is suggested for the long term if technical and economic conditions are met.

The heat planning not only offers a roadmap for the city but also serves as a support for citizens to better assess their personal options - based on sound data and in line with the city's climate goals. Tips, map views, and background information can be found on the city's climate portal: klima.our website/klimaschutz/waermeplan.

For questions about the heat planning, please contact our city portal at kwp@our website. The results report of the municipal heat planning for Detmold is now available online.

Detmold's commitment to sustainability is evident in its efforts to involve the city society in the further development of the municipal heat planning. The planning will be a living process, with citizens playing an active role in shaping their city's future.

As Detmold moves towards its goal of climate neutrality, the municipal heat planning serves as a beacon, guiding the city and its citizens towards a more sustainable future. The upcoming information event is a testament to this commitment, offering an opportunity for citizens to learn, engage, and contribute to this vital journey.
