In the heart of South Tyrol, a region known for its unique blend of languages, actor Riccardo Angelini found himself facing an unexpected challenge - mastering High German. Born and raised in this bilingual region where German and Italian are spoken, Angelini initially struggled with the standard pronunciation of High German, a hurdle that threatened to derail his acting career.

Before making a name for himself in the RTL series "Alles was zählt," where he plays the role of chef Matteo Borazio, Angelini was a bricklayer. His acting journey began when he applied for a casting, but it was cancelled due to his language issues. It was then that he realised the need for linguistic action.

Recalling the incident, Angelini shared, "I thought I was speaking High German before the casting, but it was not the case." To overcome this obstacle, he sought the help of a private language trainer, his friend's father, who became his language pedagogue.

The first text Angelini read with his language pedagogue was from "The Little Prince," a choice that marked the beginning of his linguistic journey. With dedicated practice and the guidance of his trainer, Angelini was able to switch between High German and the South Tyrolean dialect fluently.

Angelini's language pedagogue's approach was unique, focusing on immersion, working with vocal trainers, and extensive practice in performances or media using the dialect in question. This method, combined with Angelini's determination, helped him overcome the language barrier that once seemed insurmountable.

Since joining "Alles was zählt" in 2024, Angelini has been praised for his authentic portrayal of Matteo Borazio. Interestingly, people in his hometown now comment that he has a strong German accent, a testament to his hard-earned linguistic skills.

Despite the lack of direct insights into Angelini’s personal approach to dialect coaching, it's clear that his journey serves as an inspiration for actors from bilingual or multilingual regions who aspire to break barriers and excel in their craft.

  1. Angelini's linguistic journey expanded to various aspects of his lifestyle, including fashion-and-beauty and entertainment, as he adopted the high-end style typical of celebrities to project Matteo Borazio's refined image.
  2. In his home-and-garden, Angelini set up a dedicated study space to practice his High German dialect, focusing on immersion and vocal exercises to perfect his accent.
  3. As a role model for celebrities striving to master languages, Angelini's story resonates with many, demonstrating that determination and perseverance can help one conquer seemingly impossible barriers, opening doors to new opportunities in life and fashion-and-beauty.
